Hyland Hills Hockey Association

The Hyland Hills Hockey Association family and Board of Directors is extremely excited and proud to have Mr. Shawn Kurulak as our Hockey Director.

A native of Calgary Alberta, Shawn was a four year letter winner on the blueline for the DU Pioneers, where he wore the alternate captain's "A" for three seasons.  A three time WCHA All-Academic selection, Shawn helped the Pioneers win the league championship as a senior. In 131 career games at DU, he had 41 points (7 goals, 34 assists) and 268 penalty minutes.

After his college career, Shawn spent many years coaching at the collegiate level.  Prior to his arrival at Hyland, Shawn spent three years coaching at RPI.  Before RPI, Shawn was an assistant coach at West Point where he was responsible for recruiting and player development. 

Before his time with the Black Knights of Army, Shawn was an assistant coach at Bemidji State for a couple of years and he also was the Head Coach of the Fargo-Moorhead Junior A team that finished 2nd in the North American Hockey League for the 2003-04 season.

Immediately prior to his arrival at Hyland Shawn was the head coach of the Colorado Thunderbirds Midget Major AAA team which won the State and Regional Tournaments and went to the Nationals before finally being eliminated.

Shawn's goal is to enable all Hyland players to develop to their fullest potential, while acting with integrity, fairness, and honesty.  He feels that the strongest associations are always built from within.  Go Jags!
