Player Code of Conduct

Denver North Hockey League

Player Code of Conduct

The Denver North Hockey League (DNHL) strives to develop better individuals and hockey players in that order of priority.  The DNHL attempts to instill and practice the values of good sportsmanship in all participants.  In order to achieve those goals, The DNHL has established, and will enforce the following conduct guidelines, which are mere extensions of the Codes of Conduct, put forth by USA Hockey and CAHA

This also includes USA Hockey’s Zero Tolerance Policy which states that players and coaches will be assessed a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct whenever they:

  1. Openly dispute or argue any decision by an official.
  2. Use obscene or vulgar language at any time to anyone.
  3. Visually display or demonstrate any sign of dissatisfaction with an official’s decision.

The Head Coach, or acting Head Coach, is responsible for the conduct of the members of team officials of his/her team both on and off the ice immediately before, during and after a DNHL sanctioned event, including but not limited to practices, scrimmages and games.  The coach has the DNHL Governing Board, and individual Association DNHL Committee approval to take appropriate action when the following rules are violated.

ALL PLAYERS

  • Must refrain from addressing remarks to referees, officials, players, coaches or fans of either team, except when made as expressions of genuine friendship or in the spirit of good sportsmanship.
  • Never use foul language or obscene gestures.
  • Should applaud superior play by both teams and not effuse to shake hands at the end of the game.
  • Follow arena rules, both home and away.
  • Cooperate immediately with the request or decision of the referee.
  • Comply with the practice, attendance and conduct rules adopted by your team.
  • Never abuse a fellow player.
  • Respect club and rink both home and away.  This also includes hotel and restaurant property when traveling as a team.

Since the Head Coach is responsible for any action by any team member that results in damage to any facility including financial responsibility, the DNHL has adopted its own Zero Tolerance Policy regarding the damaging or destruction of any property, and the use of drugs, alcohol and all forms of tobacco while attending or participating in any team activity, including practices, scrimmages, games, tournaments and all out of town events.  Players who violate these codes will be benched or suspend from competition for a period of time as deemed appropriate by the Coach and the Disciplinary Committee of the players Association.

Repeated major penalties, misconduct, or violations to our Code of Conduct may result in an indefinite suspension from competition or expulsion from the Denver North Hockey League.
